The ideal party for me is:
Cloud Strife
Vincent Valentine
Cid Highwind

The enigma, the goth and the swear-aholic.

the strongest 3 in the entire game.

xD Vincent has the weakest stats in the whole game, and you can't control his overdrives. Lame.

Cloud - Since you have to use him.
Aerith - Best with magic, and her overdrives rock.
Barret - Great offensive attacker, and has the highest natural health.

You know Aerith dies through the game, right? I mean you probably know that since you are a huge fan of her

btw Mark is right, Vincent has the weakest stats and u can't control his limits >.<
